Re: Thinkpad P53 in game switches back to integrated GPU

No, it's coming from the computer, not sure exactly from which component. Seems more like GPU side, as it starts whining if I'll start some GPU intensive task like game. I can't say it's very annoying, I can live with it, but I was just curious what couses this and what can be done to lower / eliminate this noises. After some digging into other forums, I found one solution to completely disable CPU power management in BIOS. I've done that, and seems like it's gone but only after turning off the WIFI !! Have no idea how WIFI can be involved in this.

Seems like it doesn't switch to integrated graphics, it's just droppoing FPS. Anybody has some clue what this error might be in the event viewer?

While that warning msg in the event viewing sounds alarming, it's more of an annoyance than anything and it can be safely ignored. Currently, my P53 is working fine under load and I still that in the event logs, too. The real issue, as stated before, is related to the factory Windows OS install. Did you get your machine recently?

Also, have you tried GPU-Z to monitor GPU performance?

Yes, I've received it a week ago, with Windows Home preinstalled. I was thinking to upgrade it do PRO but change my mind. Do you think upgrading it ti PRO will fix it?

I'm constantly monitoring system with task manager and HW monitor and I can't see something alarming there.

CPU temps under load are somewhere 65 - 85C

GPU temps under load are somewhere 60 - 80C

What I don't understand in HW Monitor is in GPU section, there are two statuses which I don't know exaclty what they mean

Power limit and Temperature limit. So they often change their status from 0 to 1 while gaming for example.

Well, I'm using Discord VOIP soft to communicate with my teammates and searching for solution online I have landed on some forum where one guy says that if you turn off the option there called HARDWARE ACCELERATION, it will eliminate FPS drops in games.

From Discord:

Hardware Acceleration

Turns on hardware acceleration which uses your GPU to make Discord smoother. Turn thi soff if you are experiencing FPS drops in games.

So I have turned it off and played a little bit with my friend without issues so far. But it can be repeated anyway...

I have attached a log link from HW Monitor if you guys will have some time to take a look, I'll be more than appreciated!!

The reason why I asked how recently you got your machine is because it will be less painful to reinstall the OS now than later I assume.

From my experience and several others here, going to the MS Site directly and upgrading Windows from there rather than Lenovo Sourced installs fixed the throttling issues. I don't know if it matters if you have Home or Pro... but just get the install from MS.

There is a good reason to upgrade to Win10 Pro: the Pro edition gives you some control over the Windows update system, the Home edition doesn't. Essentially, when using Win10 Home, you are doing quality assurance work for Microsoft, sometimes at the expense of your machine's stability.

If you are doing a fresh installation then by all means install from the image downloaded from MS. If you prefer to keep the current system, the shock-sensor related throttling issues can be solved by changing 2 values in the registry, I posted the link to the procedure above.

thanks!!!

Interestng, is this throttling issue related to the shock sensor exclusively? or there are other things?
