Re: Thinkpad p70 does not turn on

Good points, oh yes.

When end the machine is working, it's really quick, and doesn't slow down under load.

For me, the P70 was one of the only machines to go up to 64Gb of RAM, which I needed.

Are there any good news about the problem?

Is it meanwhile possible to shut down the P70 with a connected HDMI-Monitor?

Any BIOS-Updates in progress?

We are a Lenovo Partner, and the RAID BIOS Lenovo gave us does resolve the RAID issue, but does not resolve the shutdown issue with the external monitor

I also got a second one. But it had the same bug. So if Lenovo isn't working on a solution I think they will not sell any more laptops.

I also thought on saying goodbye to Lenovo as I got my replacement and it had the same error.

I was just thinking about a procedure that used to work on Thinkpads of the past. I'm not sure if it is relevant here, but it was used to drain residual power from the system:

1. Remove main battery from system

2. Depress the power switch 10 times for  1 sec intervals

3. Depress the power switch for 30 sec

4. Reinstall the main battery

System should startup.

this was the test Lenovo asked to run before deciding on sending motherboard as P70 didn't start

I have been waiting for almost 3 weeks with no news, though bought next day support

The following has been previously posted to get the system up so that the BIOS can be updated:

1. Remove the main battery

2. Remove the keyboard to gain access to the CMOS battery (coin battery)

3. Unplug the connector and short the pins on the circuit board

4. Connect the CMOS battery and reinstall the keyboard

5. Install the main battery

6. Do not connect any external device to the system

7. Power on the system (system should now startup)

8. If you are using Windows 10, go into the power plan and uncheck "Enable Fast Startup"

Update the system to BIOS 2.04

thanks, harrisb

How this impact warranty?

With on-site NBD I would expect Lenovo to remove keyboard and upgrade to correct BIOS on a brand new laptop
