Re: Thinkpad p70 does not turn on

2017-08-02, 19:05 PM

Hi,

This problem occured to me twice in the last 5 months, always after connecting my computer to a projector by HDMI once my presentation was done, I switched off the laptop but then It refuses to boot. and today I am stuck with the same issue, and the guy who helped me fix it last time he is not available. How can I rebot my laptop? some instructions says I should disconnect the CMOS battery under the keyboard but I can not see any battery here.

I also have this problem, except for 2 major differences:

1. Clearing the CMOS DOES NOT work.

2. Removing the RAM DOES give me a 1-3-3-1 code

3. if RAM IS installed I get 2 short beeps and nothing else

Video chipset is the NVIDIA Quadro M5000 with BIOS version 2.16

That seems like bad dimm or bad board.

If your ram kit is 2 sticks only try with one stick to see if it will boot enough to give a numerical post code error.

I have 4 sticks and tried each stick in one slot with no change.  I do get a 1-3-3-1 code if no sticks are present

Have you tried one stick in each slot though? To test for bad slots.

Something might be timing out.  Pull any SSDs and HDDs.  Put in a single stick ant try to start.  If no beeps, get a cup of coffee and take a short break.  If that doesn't help, I guess that the motherboard is sick.
