Todays firmware on my P590 deleted GRUB menu and now only Windows are booted from dual boot

2020-08-20, 18:45 PM

Hi,

today I have updated Lenovo P590 firmware on my laptop and after boot process GRUB menu no longer there. I have had Windows 10 on my laptop and Ubuntu 20.04 as dual boot. GRUB menu selection does not appear anymore and Windows 10 automatically starts-up.

How can I recover my Ubuntu back without losing my data on it?

Regards

Hello,

First, let's see if we can identify more accurately which model of laptop this is, as that might make a difference in how to resolve the issue.

Did you perhaps mean Lenovo ThinkPad T590 or Lenovo B590 laptop?  I am not familiar with a ThinkPad P590 model.

It is Lenovo ThinkPad T590 laptop. Please see attachment laptop.jpg

I have now solved the problem. Recap:

In Windows start Command Prompt with "Run as Administrator" the execute two commands:

HTML Code:

bcdedit /set "{bootmgr}" path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi

bcdedit /set "{bootmgr}" description "ubuntu"

and then reentering UEFI boot and set "ubuntu" as first selection, save boot settings and reboot.
