TouchPad UltraNav Delay

2021-01-06, 19:17 PM
Hi All,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad P43s.  I have a slight issue with the touchpad as its response is delayed when moving the cursor, and also when two finger scrolling.  I can move my fingers on the touchpad by 3-4mm without the cursor or page moving.  My wife also has a new Thinkpad (different model, an L13), but this has an Elan touchpad and it works perfectly, so it isn't my imagination.

I have adjusted the settings and increased the Sensitivity, disabled the Palm Check and Edge Region Filtering and nothing seems to improve it.  I have uninstalled the device, checked for updates on the driver/firmware (it is up to date), and it is still the same.

This does have a perceivable impact on workflow which is irritating.

On my old laptop, I had a dedicated Synaptics Control tab (which opened up a comprehensive control app, which also allowed me to add an animated touchpad icon on the taskbar).  This is not present on this laptop, as I only have a cut down set of options via Windows.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can check next?

Many thanks
Mark

Hello,

I have not noticed this behavior on my ThinkPad P43s, but I use the TrackPoint so it is hard for me to tell if I am experiencing it.

That said, has the ThinkPad P43s been updated with the latest TrackPoint Firmware and TouchPad firmware?  The respective downloads are located at:

TrackPoint - https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-p43s-type-20rh-20rj/downloads/ds505655-trackpoint-firmware-update-utility-for-windows-10-64-bit-thinkpad

TouchPad - https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-p43s-type-20rh-20rj/downloads/ds542638-synaptics-touchpad-firmware-for-windows-10-64-bit-thinkpad

Perhaps installing these will make a difference.

Regards,

Is your touch pad already worn out a bit or dirty? I had the problem with my W530 after years of usage and replacing the touch pad's top surface (which is just a kind of "sticker" with structure) fixed the problem for me.

Hi Aryeh,

Thanks for that, yes, I have these installed already.  All drivers are up to date.

I have heard that a lag in the display can cause this symptom.  There is an updated driver on the Intel web site, but it is not a Lenovo (Intel) driver, and the Intel website warns against overwriting the existing bespoke Lenovo (Intel) driver with a purely Intel driver (even though it is newer).  Not sure whether to risk it, and what the consequences may be.

Having said the above, there is no delay with the keyboard.......

Regards

Mark

Sorry for untimely reply. As for dedicated Synaptics Control panel, you can download it from Windows Store.

Did your cursor lag issue resolve by Intel video driver after all?

Thanks gkondo,

I already have that app installed.  As far as I can tell, everything is up to date.

I havent installed the Intel display driver as it has warnings about overwriting the bespoke Lenovo one.
