Uninstalling P50 Quadro Drivers

2021-07-05, 23:01 PM

I know it's not a gaming machine, but for the last 5 years my P50 has been running the one game I play (TF2) perfectly well without any issues.

Recently, however, I've been getting a very troubling glitch where the last frame of video freezes while the last frame of audio loops. This freeze state occurs reliably now, many times per game and persists for up to 30 seconds sometimes, which really puts a damper on things.

This screams video card driver issue so my first instinct is to reinstall the Quadro drivers.

Rather than do it manually from Device Manager I'm wondering if there's a tool that can root them out completely, allowing me to install them again from scratch.

Barring this, what's the best way to do remove them manually? I'd like to get them out of the driver cache and everything.

Like you I update the drivers from time to time on different machines and I noticed that earlier 462 release was causing extreme failures on my P53 and some glitches on P51 with second monitor controlled by Nvidia. Hence I suspect that any gaming glitch could be caused by the early 462 patch levels. They are most likely not caused by a faulty installation.

If you want to keep 462.30, fine.

471.11 is a whql certified release, you might find that it fixes your glitch, or go to the latest 462 relase, or if all fails, use the last pre 462 release.

Hello,

There is a third-party utility called Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU), however, I would be cautious of using such a tool without first trying to reinstall Lenovo's official drivers.  Also, be certain to back up any valuable data first if you decide to use this (or a similar) program.

Hey, Aryeh, I already tried installing the official driver package over top  of itself but it didn't resolve the issue.

I'm familiar with those third-party uninstallers from my technician days; I meant to ask if there's one from Lenovo, but judging from your reply I gather there probably isn't.

Lenovo recently started pushing out 462.30 drivers. To get a different one installed head over to https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Enter Nvidia RTX/ Quadro, Quadro (Notebooks)/M2000M/Standard, Windows 10 64-bit press search, work your way down the list.

Re:Uninstalling P50 Quadro Drivers

I've had the 462.3 driver since Lenovo released it. They're still lagging behind Nvidia's official releases, which is at 471.11 currently (I keep a close eye on Nvidia's driver releases).

I considered that perhaps the 462.3 is causing the TF2 issue but I can't be certain that the glitch started when I installed the update because I don't play all that often.

If this was a gaming machine or a casual-use computer I would be gleefully experimenting with drivers but on the P50, which is my main work machine I'm hesitant to use anything other than the official Lenovo package.

I  know how to recover from a bad driver installation but I don't want this machine to go down even for a few hours.

Also, why did you link to Nvidia's download page and not Lenovo's?

Interestingly, 462.30, which is what I have installed on my machine now, doesn't appear on the list of available downloads on Nvidia's site. 462.31 is the closest.

I guess this is because Nvidia provides Lenovo with a customized version.
