Vantage says P50 original battery is not supported

2020-08-04, 19:31 PM

My P50 is all original, including the battery.  It seems that recent Vantage updates have:

  1. Removed the ability to set a battery charging threshold
  2. Created a situation where Vantage says that my battery is not supported

I have tried to reset the battery in Vantage, but nothing happens.

I have removed power and battery and pressed the power button for 20 seconds, but that did not help either.

Before this started, my battery was in great shape.  ( I am plugged in most of the time.)  I hate app updates that remove function and create problems, while giving me nothing new of value.

What can I do to have my battery recognized properly and also get the threshold function back?

hi

Do you mean the previous Vantage support Battery Threshold? If yes, you could try following steps, see whether the feature could come back.

I think ImController is not installed correctly. Please try following steps to see if it works.

1.      1. uninstall Lenovo vantage service & Lenovo vantage from Apps & features of windows settings,

2.Open "Device Manager" --> Find [COMPUTER NAME] --> "System devices" --> "System Interface Foundation V2 Device" --> right click, select the popup menu item "Uninstall Device", make sure the "Delete the driver software for this device."

3.reinstall Lenovo vantage from windows store,

4.launch Lenovo vantage, the vantage service will be installed automatically

5. Download IMC from https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds105970

and then you can install IMC.

I followed these instructions, but Vantage still gives me the message that my battery is not supported.  There is still no Threshold setting.  And now the Vantage toolbar with the Battery Gauge has disappeared, and I can find no way to turn it back on either from Vantage or from the Win 10 taskbar.

Now what?

hi

Does P50 support  Battery threshold before?

About Toolbar missing issue, you could try A or B method:

A:

Remove the folder in the following path C:ProgramDataLenovoImControllerPluginsLenovoBatteryGaugePackage

Restart OS. Toolbar could installed on your device.

B:

Or  download the tool from https://meta.box.lenovo.com/v/link/view/11ecf16fd0fe4c6e9baba4e73dad7684,

run UpdateBG as administrator to install VantageToolbar

Thanks, but the newer version of Vantage from the Windows Store always results in the same two problems noted in the first post of this thread:

-Battery threshold not present

-Battery not supported message (My battery is the original that came with the P50 from Lenovo.)

The only thing that makes everything work properly is going back to an older version of Vantage, as noted here:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-13-E-and-Edge-series-Laptops/Lenovo-Vantage-version-confusion-and-toolbar-missing/m-p/4543809?page=1#4545016

It seems obvious that the new (Store) version of Vantage is poorly conceived and implemented.

As I said, I reverted to the non-store version of Vantage v20.1908.3.0.  Everything works there.

With the store version, I had the gauge back but still the "unsupported battery" and no threshold function.  No reason to fiddle fiddle around with that mess.

hi

Could you please check the version of PowerManager driver by opening device manager then right click and select properties?
