Re: Very loud sound cracks using W530 in docking station

I'm just another guy with the same problem, and based on some ideas posted here, I wrote a quick little application (fully self-contained) to loop empty noise, keeping the sound card alive.

You do not actually have to play anything, I have found it to be enough to have WinAmp in paused mode. Obviously it's enough to "allocate" an output without actually having to produce and play empty noise.

I sent my W530 in and it's been on Hold for Parts for 11 days now.  How long does repair take?  Does Lenovo even have the part or am I going to have to wait until they develope one.

Lenovo sent a tech out to replace the MB on my W530, but after replacing it I no longer can get any audio at all out of my external speakers when docked. I have tried uninstalling the Realtek audio driver while docked and reinstalling, but no dice.

Anyone else experienced this or know of a fix to this bigger problem?

I bought this and it solved my entire issue:

http://www.amazon.com/Syba-SD-CM-UAUD-Adapter-C-Media-Chipset/dp/B001MSS6CS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347044974&sr=8-1&keywords=SYBA+SD-CM-UAUD71+USB+Sound+Adapter

Best $8 and I did not have to crack open the laptop.

I was holding out for the correct fix, but I finally caved in and bought one of these.

Right now you can get one for about 20 cents, shipped, after rebate at Newegg:

Hope it helps.

I paid $8 for same thing last week at Newegg.  Regardless it will fix the issue without having to rip open your machine.  The issue is no one can verify what the correct part should be so I do not want them opening up my case 3 times until they get it right.

I am happy with my USB audio solution because I have no confidence in Lenovo to fix the problem.

This has been an issue for 9 months. We get erratic communication about the status of the problem. Even after we find out it's a hardware problem, the Lenovo service folks seem completely out of the loop. Even those that have an idea about what is going on seem to have a poor understanding about WHICH rev of the motherboard will fix the problem, going through useless swap outs. Some people have sent in their systems and are waiting weeks while the service folks run in circles. The few swaps that were correct often screw up some other aspect of the system that you then have to figure out.

My trust in Lenovo's ability to provide reliable service is pretty low and I don't trust them to be swapping out my motherboard. Sometimes I am surprised they managed to build a decent computer in the first place.

My USB audio device was trivial to install, works well, and has had ZERO negative effects. I bought a little more than I needed and spent $40 but it was well worth it.

I said it before, Lenovo would have been smart to offer us a $50 coupon for a USB card and another $50 for Lenovo merchandise and most of us would have gone away very satisfied. Then they could have focused on the remaining folks that need a motherboard upgrade. Cheaper for Lenovo, faster, easier, better public relations, less mother boards to spin, a win in almost every way.

Re: Very loud sound cracks using W530 in docking station

I JUST docked my W530 for the first time today and opf course have this issue. What a drag.

Can anyone tell me before I pull things apart to check if the same thing happens from the headphone jack on the computer, or is this just from the dock? If just from the dock, at least I can get by until I get a USB to Stero audio adapter.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure this only happens in combination with the dock although interestingly enough, the problem is with the computer, not the dock. The computer headphone jack should work fine.
