This is irritatng as all heck.  The fact that I use my machine for VOIP conference calls and demos all day does not help.

Status update, anyone?

Nine,

Six (6) days ago you said you would be speaking to someone that day and would get back to all of us.  Think about it, every single person with a Thinkpad W530 and the new Dock 3 with the dock audio port is experiencing this issue.  We are all anxious for a solution.  We sit here just waiting for you to tell us something and then we hear nothing for days on end.  Could you please give all of us some guidance on what's happening in engineering and what can be expected going forward?  Do we all need to call and open support cases directly?  A little guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

K

Re: Very loud sound cracks using W530 in docking station

I finally found this thread.

New W530 and Mini Doc Plus Series 3 w/ USB 3.0 - 170W.

I reported this issue to support two days ago (had not found this thread at that point), received a replacement Mini Doc, and am still having the same issue.

Speakers work well from the built in audio port on the W530.

Speakers crack on and off from the audio port on the Mini Doc (both of them).

It seems as if it cracks when the audio port is being opened or closed from within Windows.

If it will help, I can provide two sets of Mini Doc details.

Waiting for a fix!

Bob D.

I have the same problem with my T530. I have already bought a new docking station after a lenovo support guy told me to get the docking station repaired.

Anyway, I tried the v2.38 drivers (page 3 solution): The docking station audio jack does not work. So no cracks, but no sound either.

I guess the solution is something like having an empty audio file playing all day. Maybe they should implement the empty audio file into the driver :smileywink:.

I'm hoping you can assist us in this thread.  NINE promised a number of times to follow up with all of us on where the team was headed with a solution.  At this point, he seems to have "vanished".  I'm not sure if this is a problem that can't be fixed and he's just avoiding the issue hoping it will just go away or what.  Can you take a stab at addressing the issue, what is happening and how far away (if any) a solution might be?  I'm hopeful that either you or NINE will actually provide some feedback to all of us with this problem that NINE says you are able to easily reproduce within your lab/testing environment.

Nine,

It's been weeks now since you promised to get back to all of us.  Are we to assume there is no solution and avoidance is the method Lenovo is taking hoping we will all just "ignore the problem and it will go away".  This is quite frustrating, especially since you asked all of us for technical details and promised to get back to us and never did.

We all look forward to your next posting with some details as to what is going on.  This is obviously a manufacturing/development issue and it's not good just to leave the customer hanging with no advice for how to move forward.

Thanks,

K

The latest status is that the defect is still under investigation.

No, the defect has been identified and duplicated. An update to the forum community on a plan to move forward is way overdue and at this point - almost a case of avoidance it seems.

The defect is recognized, known, duplicated, but there is not yet a solution created by the engineering team. The root cause might involve several different items which need to be addressed (e.g. ECP, Power Management, Realtek device driver, etc) and then a regression test has to be performed to insure that that the solution doesn't break anything else. I don't think that it is a case of avoidance by anyone at this point. It is unfortunate that the issue wasn't picked up in system test before marketing release. I don't have a better answer at this point.

Nine committed to update the community many weeks ago with whatever he learned from engineering, including progress they were making, etc. He then vanished without a trace with no further communication. As a matter of fact, no one from Lenovo has commented on this forum thread since the day Nine committed to follow up. One can only surmise that this smells like avoidance, neglect or indifference.
