Re: W Series Laptops Shipping discussion (2010)

The unit was ordered about 12 March. Simple things like the extra things, Lojack, power adapter, etc.. Shipped within 2 or 3 days. Finally we got a 'shipping notice' for the main unit, but it has been 'billing information received' since 7 May. The estimated ship date had been 15 May. But for anything to be 'billing information received' for this number of days (4 so far) says either the tags were printed and lost and the system don't understand a replacement shipping tag, or they printed it to make it look like it was shipping but still hasn't gone anywhere.

Anybody have data on how long their unit was 'billing information received' before UPS finally saw the real boxes??

Well our unit arrived Wednesday 12 May 2010.

The UPS trail had it as Billing received on 7 May, but the first scan showed up as Uniontown NY on 11 May. So how it got there, I guess they have the teleporter working, but its slow.

Now if that is more of an issue with UPS and customs or what and if there is anything Lenovo could do so better details showed up, who knows!! But it falling into a black hole for most of a week isn't very comforting.

Re: W Series Laptops Shipping discussion (2010)

Ordered mine on 05/02/10. Shipping date was posted as 05/18/10. Called sales on 05/08/10 because I ordered the HD screen and need to change it to the HD+ screen. Was told, no problem, I would get an email in a couple of days to confirm the change. Got an email from sales on 5/10/10 saying they weren't able to change it and it shipped on 05/11/10. Charge on my credit card did not show up until 05/12/10. Called sales again and was advised that I would be able to return it with no restocking fee when it arrived. Based on this, I reordered. I get a tracking number for the computer that supposedly shipped on 05/11/10, but UPS can't find it. I am really starting to think I made a big mistake, especially when I ordered the second machine. Is this company "duping" its customers or am I missing something here?

shipping question...

2010-05-16, 12:49 PM

Hello, I ordered my system on May 2, 2010 and was told that it will ship on June 2, 2010 because they had no HD+ screens.  I suppose they got the parts and the system got shipped on May 14, 2010.  Right now it shows that it is in Alaska.  (Below is the last update).  I picked the 2 day express shipping, so up until yesterday, it said the system should be at my home by May 17, 2010.  Now there is no estimate date.  I leave for a Conference on Tuesday.  I like in northern New Jersey.  Does anyone know when I can expect have the system?

Thanks a lot!

I'm 9 days out from my order date and thinking of canceling.

I ordered a W701ds and never did get an email.  I saved my order # and saw an expected ship of 6/18/2010 with no detail avail when I hit the button - it's almost as if Lenovo dosn't have a modern ERP system that can track goods in production.

Greenbean,

I hope that you will stick with us as the 701ds is a monster of a system!

Regarding your points on IT - you are absolutely right.   The guidance provided on the website is based on lead times.  Once an order has passed to manufacturing, then all the components are analyzed and a more definitive estimated ship date is provided back on the order status site.  This can still be based on lead time of inbound supply if demand exceeds parts on hand, so there can be some variability in the dates which is why some move out.

I agree that this can be improved.  The US was one of the first countries where we deployed a direct sales model in about  2000 and while some of the back end IT, and the front end updates to allow true configure to order in 2006 have evolved, there are still some components in the overall solution that impose some limitations.

We have been deploying a new strategic IT backbone and rolling it out country by country and bringing up new instances of the direct model on it.  Canada was one of the first countries in 2007, and the US was scheduled later in the roll out phases so that in this high complexity, high volume market , we would have incorporated all the learning from earlier releases and make the transition with little or no disruption.

Once we bring the US up on the new system, I think you'll see the kind of data flow and responsiveness you would expect.

Thanks again for your feedback, and I hope you'll stick with the 701ds.

Best regards,

Mark

Thank you for the explanation, I hope your software rollout goes smooth.  I actually need to hit the road next week on an international ERP project so I have some idea of what you are talking about.

I did attempt a cancelation (I will not know if it worked for 1 or 2 days)....  The idea of not knowing the real status of my order worried me.  The support person I talked to needed 1 to 2 business days to accuratly status my order.  If I gave them that much time, then canceling the order would take between 3 to 6 days total (adding the 2 plus a day for confustion plus a weekend).  So I just pulled the plug now.

I need a system before my flight next week as my old Y710 is chokeing itself to death with updates (who's idea was a 28.9G OS partition, anyway?).  Plus, the screen on my Ideapad has dead stripes from where I shut a pen in it (do NOT do this!).

I am looking now at CDW, PC Conn, etc. to find something like a W700 in stock.

After you received Lenovo Delivery notification email, How many days do you wait until you received the order?

Do you receive UPS delivery tracking number ?  I am in Canada and my order was placed almost 4 month.
