First delay was to 2/26/2010 and the last delay is to 4/05/2010. If the new dell precision m4500 comes out before that or before the next delay, which I'm expecting at the moment, then I'm out of here. This is my first lenovo and the experience has been a bad one. After reading through the long list of previous complaints and finding sopme solace in that I am not alone, I feel obliged to share my experience. I am using/buying ThinkPads since 1998 and, despite many quirks which I am sure other manufaturer's laptops have also, still remain loyal to the brand.  

I ordered W510 on Jan 8 2010 practically the first day model became available and seemingly earlier then anybody on this discussion. Ready for the delay - brand new model after all - I brushed aside original Feb 12 2010 estimate shipping date. On Feb 12 the date changed to Mar 8 and, respectively and expectedly, on March 8 it was changed to Jun 6 2010! That's close to half a year since original order date. You can guess my reaction, but in comparison to other fellow Lenovo customers no tragedy in my case, just a drama: I still have my T61p chugging along. The good news - the newer model may become available by the time the are ready to ship my W510, so I will skip one more model iteration and get even more advanced system ... if Lenove would be able to ship it prior to going out of business. Ordered my w510 on 2/25; was shipped on 3/8; was delivered on 3/10. Runs great. Haven't discovered any issues so far.

Hi All, I just wanted to reiterate the ongoing issues Lenovo is experiencing with the W510 ordered with FHD Displays. I have been a loyal ThinkPad user for over several years and as many others have posted on this discussion am now seriously considering moving away from the brand after being acquired from Lenovo. Where to begin?

 

I placed my first order on 02/10/10... however, for some reason, the Lenovo Website did not like my credit card and told me to call customer service.  Ok, no big deal, perhaps they needed further verification.  I explained to the sales rep the issue I had processing my order and he wasn't surprised... in fact he said this 'happens all the time' and that the Lenovo website 'is always having issues.'  Ok, if that's the case, why should Lenovo even be accepting orders on their website!?!  I asked about the order I had placed and he informed me that there wasn't any order in their system and that I would have to create a new order.  So I was instructed to recreate the original order on the website and essentially try to do the exact same steps as before.... and, NOT SURPRISINGLY, the website came back with the same response.  So the sales rep told me to go through the exact same procedure yet again and instead create a quote which he would then receive to process over the phone... after giving him the same credit card details, the order was finally accepted and I received an email confirmation.  Great I thought, I'll be a happy owner of a W510 in a few weeks time... but that was NOT TO BE…

 

Another obstacle along the way was Lenovo's "Len Max Credit Card Orders Release" department because the billing/shipping address did not verify with my credit card company.  So I called my bank and verified that the shipping address they had on file matched exactly the one my W510 was supposed to be shipped to.  My bank said there was nothing they could do other than to have Lenovo call them to verify this themselves.  The obvious next step was to call Lenovo's Credit Card Services department to tell them to call my bank... WHERE IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE HERE!?!  Am I supposed to do their job?  As I said, I've been a loyal ThinkPad user and brushed this aside as a one off blunder on their part.  After many repeated attempts to reach someone in this department to explain their mistake I finally gave up and left a message as no one seemed to be picking up this number... well, I guess they do actually check their voice mail as my order was finally "release" on 02/18/10...

So I figured I'd add on perhaps 8-10 days to the "Estimated Shipping Date" I originally received from Lenovo when I first placed my order and their website confirmed as 03/11/10.  Boy WAS I WRONG!!

 

The first sign of additional delay was when earlier this week the website pulled this date from my order status... and up until today had only a blank date under "Est. Ship Date".  So I put in a call to Lenovo yesterday to see when I could expect my W510 to be shipped and the service rep was very reassuring.  He said it would "definitely" ship by the end of the week and it was common for the website to pull the Estimated Shipping Date when it was due to ship.  He told me to watch my email for a tracking confirmation.  So at this point I thought perhaps the posts in this discussion were the exception rather than the norm...  WRONG AGAIN!!

 

Today I checked the order status on the Lenovo website and now it states the estimated shipping date as 06/01/10... are you kidding me!?!  Rather annoyed and upset, I placed another call into Lenovo... which I may add seems to ring perhaps 25-40 times before anyone picks up.  I explained to the rep that finally answered that I had been told my W510 would definitely ship this week.  He put me on hold and after several minutes apologized for the delay (hmm which one) and informed me that they now see the estimated shipping date as 06/20/10.  LENOVO ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!  IS THIS HOW YOU TREAT YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS?  IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO SHIP AN ORDER SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER BEING PLACED? 

 

I told them that this was not acceptable to me and the customer service representative agreed and that he would elevate the issue with their "Supply Team".  Still rather upset about the rep that essentially lied to me earlier, I asked him how could I possibly trust what he was telling me?  I was then promised that Lenovo would send me an update on my order IN WRITING as to the actual expected shipping date within 2 Business Days.  As a loyal ThinkPad user, I will wait for this response and if it is satisfactory, I will still do business with them.  However, at this point, I am not overly optimistic... good luck to all of you... I hope your Lenovo Purchasing experience is much better than mine!

Like the rest of us posting here, I am a long time ThinkPad user.  I'm typing this on a well traveled T60 which desperately needs to be replaced.  I'm a software consultant and often get assigned temp project laptops of all different brands.  I have yet to try another brand that feels as good to use as my ThinkPad.

 

However, I am still waiting for my W510 with FHD ordered on Jan 21.  As of today I am being told my scheduled ship date is now April 18 which is 100% due to the monitor.  My problem is I have lost faith and don't trust these estimates because they have been constantly moving further and further out since the day I ordered.

 

Today I gave in and let the sales rep put in a second order for me for the exact same model with the lower res HD+ monitor.  Not ideal, but I am tired of waiting.  That order placed today is showing a ship date of April 7.  The sales rep thinks that despite the date it will still ship in March because Lenovo wants to book the sale in Q1.  Now it is a race to see which order gets processed first and then I cancel the other.

 

I still have some other complaints.  I ordered a second power adapter the first time around which of course they shipped within a week an is now sitting here with me.  The website adds the 90w but according to the website since I don't actually have the laptop, the W510, needs the 135w.  I called when UPS delivered and Lenovo actually wanted a restocking fee to send it back so I'm just hanging onto it.  Even today when the sales rep tried to put a second adapter on my order it came up as 90w so they still don't have their act together.

 

The other minor issue is I asked if my original order from Jan 21 which still hasn't shipped qualified for the free upgrade to MS Office 2010.  I was told that option wasn't available when I ordered so it wouldn't.  If I wanted to change the current order, then the whole order would have to be resubmitted and it would move my order back to the end of the line.  Such a small thing, and yet they can't process it without redoing the whole thing.

Sorry to hear that my friend. i was in the same situation as you before. I originally ordered the W510 FHD to replace my T60p but canceled it due to the delay. I then re-order it with the HD+ on 2/18/2010 and lenovo shipped it on 2/25/2010. As a former T60p user, i am surprised by both the finish and built quality of the new w510. Its the best thinkpad ever!. i only wish i have the FHD screen because i heard that it was wonderful.

About the 90W adaptor, the 90w will only charger you w510 and cpu will run at base current 1.7 Ghz. Only the 135w adaptor will give you full power. The lenovo webpage DID NOT explain this at all and you will have to explain it to the return department.

Wish you luck and expect to recieved the HD+ version before the end of march.

Itan: A couple of questions:

 

I am also coming from a T60p (a great machine, BTW) to the HD+ W510 and I was hoping for a brighter screen on the W510 than the T60p.  Is the W510 substantially brighter?

 

And I also fell victim to buying the 90w slim adapter and I am keeping it becuase it can still charge several other things...but: While driving, can I still use the 90w adapter to charge a W510 from a car's 9v output while the W510 is not in use?

Well, i have the SVGA+(1400x1050) 14.1" T60p. It is not the Flexview screen.  And the HD+ on my W510 are much brighter than my T60p screen.  i have to dim down to 13 (15MAX).  It starts to show ghosting if i dim down to 11 or lower. I heard it is common to this type of screen. But i suggest you wait for the FHD screen. I heard reviews from many user claim that it is Wonderful. And you should get the color calibrator too.

 

About the 90w slim battery, some report claim it worked on W510 just like the regular 90w adaptor. But you wont be able to use the turbo boost and the cpu will run at base current 1.6GHz in my case. But much better than HP and Dell since they throttle down to 800MHz. Hope that help!

I am having the same frustrating experience.

I ordered the W-510 on Feb 2, 2010.

They said it would ship on Feb 11, 2010.

Feb 11 came and went and they then said (on their website) it would ship March 5.

march 5 came and went and when I logged in to find the status all I got was an error message.

I spoke to them at Lenovo about the error message on my order.

They fixed the error message.

The new ship date is June 2!!!

That is 4 months after my order date and almost 4 months later than they said I would get it.

Are these people for real? Will I get it shipped on June 2 or is something else going on here?????

Well, today's the day...my estimated ship date for the W510 HD+ i7920.  Oddly, the date has disappeared from the online status checker.

 

 

UPDATE: The website says it shipped today.
