2008-08-05, 19:11 PM

Are there no horizontal USB ports on the W500?

Thank you, Myles!

Is it just me, or does anyone else find this to be inconvenient?

LukeD,

You are definitely not alone. In fact I have at one device that does not take kindly to vertical USB, because of its width.

I do prefer horizontal USB ports, or perhaps a combination.

Us an extender cable. If a USB device has difficulties with clearance in a vertical port, it wasn't meant to be used in a laptop.

I find the T6x and R6x has the best usb layout ever. Having all three usb ports on one side and all vertical is just silly, at least they should of put one on the right side too. Even the SL series got 4 usb ports.

With respect, no, that is not true at all!

Every other notebook manufacturer has horizontal slots. You should have said that these devices are not meant for ThinkPad notebooks. The question is then why is Lenovo handicapping ThinkPad notebooks to the point where users need extender cables?

i think it has to do with the display port and keeping the VGA port, while Lenovo don't want to/or can't use the rear end of the laptop. I guess it has to do with packaging more than anything else, you win some you lose some.
