W500 Fingerprint Reader keeps saying Too Short

2008-10-31, 16:10 PM

When on the log in screen, I keep getting the "Too Short" pop up message from my fingerprint reader even though I am not touching the reader. It keeps popping up every few seconds.

I have a W500 with Vista Business x64

Any dust or anything sitting on or brushing the reader?  That would be my first thought is something stuck in there.  It's basically a very mini scanner...

Re: W500 Fingerprint Reader keeps saying Too Short

I have a W700 and an X200 Tablet-- both have fingerprint reader problems. Both record too short scans, both get perfect scans wrong and require several passes to get a good scan.  And yes I know how to setup and use biometic devices like this. I also have an X61 Tablet with a fingerprint scanner and that scanner software (which I noted was different from the new application included with my W700 & X200T) works fine.

I also notice weird delays that prevent back-to-back scans which, since the scans fail so often, makes this nuicence even more annoying.

This is not a dust issue, and I doubt it's even a scanner issue. I'm guessing it's a Lenovo scanner software issue. This should be easily fixed and I can provide Lenovo with even more specifics if they are interested.

SoLenovo-- what about these fingerprint scanner issues appearing across different NEW models?

Anyone else want to report on fingerprint scanner issues with the new Lenovo models?
