W500 Such a disappointment

2009-02-24, 11:30 AM

1. ATI Graphics dont load on install, download from lenovo site, still wont load

2. Vodafone Broadband, no device installed!

3. Docking Station Warped

4 CD Rom, now intermittent

5 Rescue and Recovery Disks not supplied, Lenovo will send them, if only to eat up the 30 days support

6 Oh and while we are on about techncal support, the answer to all problems, 'we will send you out the disks'

7 Boots up slower than a 3 yr old T60 with 1 GB ram

bored at the weekends, too much time, buy a W500

Phone Lenovo, if you're withing 10 days of the buy declare it as DOA. Lenovo will then check if it was a hardware fault or if the software is faulty.

Have you tried to recover via F11 or CDs if provided by the seller if it wasn't Lenovo? And not all W500 are bad :) Sorry to hear that you have a problem.

Cheers

its also, a badly laid out laptop in respect of 3 vertical usb ports and vga on the left hand side.

being vertical, it limits sime fixed usb inputs if they are orientated the wrong way.

being on the LH side means if you have a cable mouse, you have to trail the cable around the back or front, or you have a receiver poking out the left, and a mouse on the right.

and what about that pokey wireless on off switch, how long will that last?

my t61 had 2 usb right and one usb left, plus a more solid wireless switch, can only guess that worked well so lenovo changed it

I wasn't that happy at first but just to clarify some things

1. I don't know what you mean by "don't load" but in fact the new driver is almost ready and you can actually download it from a thread in T500 discussion here.

3. Warped docking station doesn't prove w500 is a dissapointment.

5. Recovery partition is installed by default on every machine, right? Whats wrong with yours?

7. You don't really think the same T60 would boot up quicker with Vista? Thats a complaint to Microsoft. However I was pleasantly surprised to find a WinXP downgrade disc. This might solve some problems

As for the mouse - I would always plug it on the left side anyway. The cable would obstruct the movement if it was on the right side. I switched to wireless mouse which is 100 times better. Is there really that much newly produced devices that do not fit into vertical usb in W500?
