W500 + WD320g Scorpio Black

2008-10-25, 15:10 PM

Greets all,

first post here.

I recently upgraded the HD in my W500 from

factory (160g/7200) to a Western Digital scorpio

(320g/7200).

Everything's running fine, but I notice quite a bit

more vibration under the handrest.  (noise is not

much more, but the vibes are significant).

I did notice, upon installation, that the little rubber

"boots" on the factory HD fit the WD a little loose.

I'm sure others have run across this same 'problem'.

I'm thinking of adding some foam the HD to make

the booties fit better (hopefully reducing vibes) --

but I'd hate to cause any overheating.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

outofstepper,

Did you also remove the HDD cage from the factory drive and install on your new drive?

This is the portion that the black pull-tab is attached to....

If missing, this could account for the slight "loose" installation of the rubber HDD rails and allow for vibration from a spinning drive to be more noticeable.

Regards
