W500 WUXGA screen dim at bottom right corner

2009-09-07, 15:50 PM

the bottom right corner of my WUXGA screen has about a 1cm area of dimness/darkness.

it looks especially bad against a white background.

is this normal? does anyone else have this problem?

is this covered under warranty?

should i get it fixed or replaced?

I got that in my W700 too - a gradient of dimness (100% to 60%) progress into the corner of about 1cm2 (tiny) area at bottom right corner.

Did you send it back to fix it or call tech?  What did they said?

My W700 screen has dim bottom corners, too, but because they're far from the centre of the screen and are often masked by the Windows taskbar, I seem to be able to live with them.

The lower right corner of my screen appears to be a little darker than the rest of the screen if I look straight on.  However, if I move my line of sight directly in front of the lower right corner, or even just right of the lower right corner, this area appears less dark.  I think it is the angle of vision that is causing the darker corner on my screen.

interesting - I just put my sight directly in front of the very corner and it become less dark (still 80~90%).  It is interesting that only bottom right corner of mine has the problem while bottom left and all top corners are unaffected.

Maybe that's where CCFL tube ends?

Just an update:  I had previous leave a information request to Lenovo about the screen corner dimness - they're sending out a box for me to pack to them to service - should I do so?

If yes what are the chances that I will get a worse screen than the one that I already have?  So far my screen is without any bright/dim/dead "pixels"

That is where the CCFL ends and is not really considered a defect. Older IPS LCDs used on T4x series were notorious for dark corners.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

George
