W500 & Sandisk ExtremePro SSD?

2014-08-05, 10:08 AM

Hi all,

this is a question addressed to all members familiar with the W500 model.

I intend to upgrade from a Kingston 120GB to a Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD, perhaps the 480GB, I guess it comes down to preferences - my idea is to make use of the 10 years of warranty of this product.

Any advice to avoid Sandisk as a brand, with Lenovo's W500?

Appreciate all input!

Regards,

W500 / T61p / T61 / R60

I don't think that's a bad combination. Sandisk is a well known brand.

I once got three cheap Sandisks, not the Extreme versions but the "normal" ones so to say. They work so far ok in some of my T500 and W500...

I purchased the unit .. now waiting for delivery.

Once it shows up I'll build a brand new Windows image based on the recovery DVDs and then I'll see how it performs.

I also have to decide for which Linux flavor I will go  .. I need a dual boot on this machine. Any recommendations for a W500? (have "hardware & drivers" in mind ..).

Does the W500 support the mSATA drives? I believe not - if I remember correctly, I was reading about this when I was thinking about my T61p & a mSATA drive.

No native mSata support in your W500, mSata started being an option with the xx20 series (of course you could make it work with a mSata to 2.5" adapter, but I would stick to a 2.5" model).

Any Linux would work fine on your W500, but getting the Switchable graphics to work may be a little tricky :smileysad:
