W500 and Defragmentation

2010-05-03, 3:04 AM

Trying to derangement my SW_Preload C:  drive with PerfectDisk10 and getting error message.

" Unable to defragment Entire Drive \\?|Volume{27996403-1bec-11df-809a-

c0248fc3cb86} due to error. The system cannot finde the file specified.(-2147024894) "

From what I already find, probably the problem is with permissions issue where the drive we are attempting to defragment does not have System  and Administrators credentials listed with FULL CONTROL

Have no idea how to fix this or maybe there is different solution to that problem ?

You may consider running a disk check first (go to the Properties -> Tools of the volume).

Hi JanKwiat,

As the Administrator your command prompt will be:  C:\Windows\system32>

then enter this command:

Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

there is one space after: Rundll32.exe

Or just copy and Right click in the command prompt collect paste

Then run your defrag on HDD drive NOT ON A SSD

I like to defrag my HDD drives from the command line, like this defrag c: -w -v

and I defrag the boot sector as well with the command defrag c: -b

the -b = boot Sector, of a spinning drive.

I hope this helps,
