W500 opening the motherboard

2014-01-17, 6:25 AM

My Thinkpad w500 from 2009 videocard stopped working.

To fix this, i want to open the motherboard, and switch the graphic card to new ATI Radeon HD 3650.

Does anyone know if it is possible? theoretically??

Can a better video card be replaced?

The graphic card is soldered in the mainboard, so the card alone can't be swapped/replaced, you'll need to replace the whole motherboard.

you could try reflowing the GPU. Usually the ATI in the T400, T500 and W500 fails, due to the solder BGA joint having microscopic faults.
