Maybe you should go to device manager and click "sound, video and game controller" and then double click "conexant 25085 smartaudio HD"   it will tell you if it is disabled

Have you tried adjusting the sound enhancements in Windows 7?  I came close to losing audio, but found that the sound enhancements were causing sound to misbehave and even go mute.

Nanovox, I'm talking about STERO MIXING/WAVEOUT not just some audio lose problem. I appreciate your help, but your solution are not even related to my question. I'm talking about stereo mixing/waveout under sound> recording.

Woops, sorry about that.  Guess I'm confusing my issues.

I did some digging around on the web and kept running across this when searching for "stereo mix" and "what u hear".  Sounds like a number of manufacturers are caving into pressure from the RIAA to disable the stereo mix features on their sound cards.  Not sure if that includes Conexant and Lenovo, but I wouldn't be surprised.

If that is true, then this really blows because I specifically bought this laptop to do sound studio recording because I'm an amateur electronic musician.  That means I make music on my computer.  As part of the creative process, I perform recording sessions on my computer and record them as I jam out on the computer.  The software I use is Windows-based, so I have no alternative but to use Windows.  Now, if sound card companies are tossing out the stereo mix option, I can't record my performances.

I'm going to go home and get to the bottom of this as soon as I can, but if I can't get it working then I'm tempted to sue Lenovo and Conexant for giving me a defunct laptop.  Microsoft isn't the one at fault here, it's the manufaturer and their trash drivers and their fear that the RIAA is going to come down on them for a legitimate feature.

I would never have bought this laptop if I knew this was true.  There's no documentation on the Conexant 20585 chip, so it's not my fault for expecting a feature that has existed in sound cards since Windows '95.

Nanovox: Exactly, from what i know there is no documentation on this 20585 chip, and it is pissing me off that stereomix/wave out has been there since win 95 and now it's gone. Got to be driver issue as all sound chip should have stereomix/waveout option, just that lenovo is not implementing it.

I went to edit the driver INF and searched for waveout options in it, indeed lenovo has disabled it with some other functions. Someone got to come out and clarify this matter.

Found some information, seems like stereomix has been disabled by lenovo.
