W510 Performance on Batter

2011-09-27, 19:22 PM

My W510 is practically unuseable on battery. It is unbearably slow. I can't even play a video, the video is slow and way behind the audio. Internet is also slow. Even mouse clicks are delayed and slow. On AC, everything works like a charm.

It could be a hardware issue (while on battery) but I have to believe it is a setting. I run with settings at Maximum Performance while on battery. The slider on the power manager is all the way to the left, High Performance.

This W510 is only 3 months old. Battery is healthy.

CPU is Q720 1.6 gHz. I have 4 gigs of memory.

What other power settings could affect performance?

Hi canterp

On AC, try update using System Update to update your BIOS, drivers, Power Manager, etc. It should help.

If problem still persist after update on battery, contact Lenovo Support.

I went to System Updates and saw only one update related to the Bios, nothing related to power or battery. I accepted the bios update. No change in performance.

How do I know if I have the latest updates for Bios, drivers,Power Manager etc?

Hi canterp

1. What OS are you running?

2. Is it Lenovo preload? or installed fresh by your own copy?

3. If Lenovo does not have new updates for gpu, you could try download and update drivers from Nvidia

4. Defrag your hard drive if it is heavily fragmented. A heavily fragmented machines slow down operation. Furthermore, running in battery mode would even reduce performance more by ~30% or higher. Recommended: defraggler (free) or PerfectDisk (paid)

5. Run a full system scan with ThinkVantage System Toolbox to see if there's any hardware failure.

That's all I could think of. If all does not work. Contact Lenovo Support.

Cheers :D
