Re: W510 cannot wake up from sleep

2010-07-19, 14:19 PM

Sleep: Manually from start menu, fn+f4, closing lid

Wake: power button, open lid, fn+f4

Hibernation = OK, no problems at all

Happens both on AC and battery

Power manager :  yes - tried changing config

JameZ ... I'll follow up via PM ... thx

Re: W510 cannot wake up from sleep

I also have the same issue on my brand new w510, very frustrating.

One thing I do have in common was the Crucial memory. I only included 2GB of RAM on the purchase and then bought 4x4GB chips from Crucial, trying to save $500. Now I'm wishing that I would have just bit the bullet and bought the over priced memory from Lenovo. :mansad:

Thinking that I may just try and remove the Crucial memory all together and see what happens. Unfortunately I'm on the road so I can't take this thing apart right now.

I have updated all of the Thinkpad drivers to the latest version, no luck.

Just for information. My w510 came with 4gb of installed ram (2x2) under the keyboard. I installed another 4gb of crucial ram (2x2) in the bottom two slots. I have had no problems with sleep.

   ShaneTrustforce :

I don't think there is any general conclusion re:Crucial memory yet.

Just as a data point:

1.   I do not have any Crucial memory.

2.  The person who had Crucial memory earlier - replaced it - and still appears to have the same problem (after a while)

Still waiting to hear from JamesZ

Sorry, spoke too soon. Just heard from JameZ. I'll try the experiment over the weekend.

I'd like to add the observation that most people who have this problem appear to have 8 GB or more of RAM  --  many have 16GB. The ability to upgrade up to 16GB of RAM is a major reason why many of us have purchased the W510 line of notebooks in the first place.

Solving the problem for a 2 GB or  4 GB configuration is not going to helpful for most of us.

All,

I've requested the team to test diffrent configuration of the RAM installed (2 x 2GB / 2 x 4GB / 4 x 4GB) and currently pending their feedback on this.

Appreciate everyone's feedback on this.

Re: W510 cannot wake up from sleep

I had problem with all combinations: All memories was bought from lenovo and 2+2 was delivered preinstalled under the keyboard and another 4 + 4 was purchased but was not preinstalled.
2+2 preinstalled under keyboard.
4+4 instead of the preinstalled under keyboard
2+2+4
2+2+4+4
4+4+2
4+4+2+2

So my thought is that this is not a memory problem. I also did complete memory stress test without any problems.

//Joakim

ps My colleagues have 4 identical machines without problems.

Thanks, JameZ.

The firmware/software must somehow decided not to continue with the wake - before blinking the lights.

Is there anyway to get a diagnostic code to determine the reason why? (the LCD display is not yet available - but does the order of blinking lights indicates anything?)

For sure - a "good" wake has the BEEP (for me) and a "lockup" wake has no BEEP.

And if it matters, I am using a SSD with a 320gb drive in the ultrabay.
