W510: Slow network initialisation

2010-06-13, 11:27 AM

Hi,

I've had a problem with my W510 that has annoyed me since I've got it and that is the network always seems to take around 60 seconds to connect when I start it up.

It doesn't matter if it's my wireless connection at home or in the office, nor does it matter if it's a wired connection, it's the same slow behaviour.

My other devices have no problems connecting and it's a real pain waiting around for it, especially when with my previous laptop I didn't even have to think about it.

I've contacted support but all they did was point me in the way of diagnostics which say there's nothing wrong.

Does anyone else have similar experiences with their W510 or better still, know how to fix it?

Regards

Andy Wu

Have you updated all your drivers for network?

You can try this, right click my computer>properties>click device manager at (left)>under network adapter> find your wireless card and double click>under power management>untick "allow the computer to turn off..."

You can try for the wired one too.

However i think this is due to your driver. Do a driver update.

I've got the latest drivers installed. Sadly I keep abreast of the latest driver updates hoping that the next one will solve my issues.

The power saving settings make no difference either I'm afraid.

Thanks for the reply

Andy

Try disabling the DNS Client Service using the Admin. Tools. If you have a large hosts file the DNS Client service will take forever to cache the names.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm afraid disabling it makes no difference.

I have the same issue, in fact I have a number of issues with the networking within my system (W510) period.

For instance when turning adapters\vpn clients on and off I have on many occasions received Blue Screen errors and crashes.  I have also contacted support without success. Unfortunately I still have no answers but wanted you to know you are not an isolated user.

Good to know I'm not the only one experiencing the problem.

I wonder what it takes to get Lenovo to address this issue. I'm really disappointed with their support and regretting going with a Lenovo.

Turns out it was a software issue.

I started uninstalling anything remotely related to the network and it wasn't til I uninstalled VMWare Workstation that the network started to respond as quickly as it should.

Hope that helps anyone else that comes across the same issue.

I don't run VM Ware and I have this same issue. Very aggravating. May as well not have wireless at all as I always have to hard connect to my network in order to get reliable access.

I sympathise. I found it very frustrating waiting around for it to connect.

Do you have any VPN or security software installed?

My tact was just to keep uninstalling anything that touched my networking or security. I even uninstalled the Lenovo Access Connections software too, leaving it to Windows to manage my wireless.

Hope that helps
