W520 Type 4284-GP1

2018-05-21, 19:28 PM

Help.... I have been trying without success to find the original specfications for my venerable W520 so that I can determine what memory upgrade options might be available.  I have been running Win7-Ultimate on a dock for about five years (now on my 2nd 1TB SSD for speed...) and am now getting very annoying low memory errors...   (I also have a docked T410s running without incident.)

The W520 still seems to pass all the hardware checks so I surmise I must have added at least one too many memory hogs over the years...

Thanks for any assistance.

Thanks....  actually, the stock 8GB was fine until 6 weeks ago or so... and I just freed almost 1GB by changing the automatic indexing settings.

As soon as I find the video showing how to add another 8GB, I will hopefully be OK through  Microsoft's EOL for Windows 7.  Unfortunately, from what I seem to recall, the W520 may not be that Windows 10 friendly.

64-bit windows 7 can take 32gb.  (4X8GB)

You can also check see how to add RAM following the hardware maintenance manual: click me!  Check chapter 9 - 1030/1041

I have few T520/W520 models with Win10 and they worked perfectly fine, I can't say though how they do with the 1803 upgrade since I haven't updated mine yet.
