W520 has a whitelist, so without hacking the BIOS the 7260 won't work.  That is my experience from two weeks ago.

I'll give it a try when the price gets lower. To get that through customs here in Norway, the price will be 110 usd or so because of VAT and extre fees when the value is over 33 USD  :-(

I just fixed my W520 on 1.42

I posted step by step instructions. (and you can see what I tried and failed before it worked)

Would you mind posting your results with the 7260 JazJon? What kind of card did you originally have in there? I just bought a W520, and it should be in next week. I'm hoping to upgrade the Wireless so I get a bit more longetivity out of the machine.

@playmer

Sure, I had the Intel Centrino Ultimate n 6300.  3x3

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-ultimate-n-6300.html

The new 7260 is only 2x2 so I'll leave the 3rd Aux coax line unconnected.

I found some 3x3 ac mini pci cards via this page but they aren't released yet from what I see

https://wikidevi.com/wiki/List_of_802.11ac_Hardware

I'm glad you posted this because I went to amazon to check when the delivery was and it was delivered today!

(was in my mailbox instead of at my door)   I'm going to install it shortly and will post results.  stand by

It works!  I even tested syspect/resume and the network stays stable.

(mission acomplished, feel to finally have a fast ac network stable  i7 laptop)

Here's how:

Here'sare the tiny paper instructions the generic package

(I'm not sure why the image insertion isn't working on this forum, I'll just list links)

Here's what the card looks like installed.  (old card is by it for referance)

Bluetooth is working, but what is this failed one all about?

Hardware ID:

Originally the Generic Bluetooth had the yellow ! and the Thinkpad Bluetooth 3.0 was working.  I deleted all Bluetooth devices, rebooted, and now the Generic is working and Thinkpad Bluetooh 3.0 is !

I just installed this  Bluetooth,

I now have the proper Bluetooth 4.0 driver but the old 3.0 is still there.  I'll try rebooting

Fantastic! I appreciate all the help, I'll be sure to buy one of those. Was it just a standard 7260s or did you grab one of the Lenovo badged ones from Ebay?

I got mine from Amazon, didn't kow they had Lenovo badged ones.  It wouldn't help anyway since they didn't update the whitelist on the W520 for AC cards.  (only the W530 was on the latest whitelist)

I'm still not sure how to get rid of the old Thinkpad Bluetooth 3.0 thing in device manager.  It doesn't seem to be effecting anything though.  WiFi and Bluetooth works great.
