And for some of us even the number pad is a suitable Christmas gift. Using the major open source 3D graphics package Blender with a lot of shortcut keys including those of the numpad, with the W540 we will be able to drop the external numpad and just continue with an external (full 3 button) mouse.

What about the numpad shifting the whole alpha keyboard left and the touch pad left?

Means the left hand is going to be bunched up.   Not a good thing.

I wish I had a better idea of pricing as well, with and without the IPS display.

I want to have an idea as to how much higher it will be priced compared to the W530

I wonder the same thing whenever I see a laptop with a num pad on the keyboard.  I think the num pad could be pretty useful but Isn't it a bit "unnatural" to not have your keyboard/hands lined up with the middle of the screen?  I've never used a laptop like this so I don't know.  When I use a desktop keyboard it's shifted to the right so the alpha keyboard is centered with the screen.

Two of the three features I have been waiting and waiting for Lenovo to offer...numeric keypad and IPS display!!  Finally!  Thank you Lenovo for designing something for true productivity!

I was using my mother's Lenovo G650 which has a numpad.

The shift in the keyboard to the left is minimal, so that for most purposes you should not notice it.

The only key factor would be that your left wrist still has part of the laptop to rest on, and indeed it does.

IPS ... Check!

K5000M Graphics ... Check!

HDMI out ... ????

Please please.  I'm so sick of the DISPLAYPORT crap.  Please come into the next century Lenovo and give us the HDMI out port.
