Where did you get the K5000M from? The K5000M is a card designed for 17 inch laptops.

The shift in the keyboard to the left is minimal, so that for most purposes you should not notice it.

The only key factor would be that your left wrist still has part of the laptop to rest on, and indeed it does.

This has got to be a matter of opinion.

I have a W701, and having to sit slightly to the left (and have my hands resting to the left of the screen) drives me nuts.

After having bought every W series since the W500 this is indeed a dealbreaker for me, I cannot sit offset to the side of the screen, unfortunately.

They probably changed the connector to handle the extra bandwidth, so probably no.

Re: W540 Announced Today

I spoke with a Lenovo sales rep, and don't quote me, her information is that the w540 will come with a touchscreen option. We know that the t440 has this option on an IPS 1920x1080 display, so it is hard to speculate what resolution displays other than the 3k will be offered and what will come with the touchscreen option. What I'm most concerned about is what the price will be at release time for the near fully loaded models, i.e. whether Lenovo.com will sell them at list, or at some kind of discount. Does anyone have a long memory and can remember what happens with pricing for new models at the release date????

When the W530 came out, it was sold for around $50 more than the W520, as I recall. Prices were very comparable.
Thinkpad W530, i7-3720QM, 1920x1080 screen, 32GB RAM, dual SSDs (Samsung 830, Crucial M4 mSATA), Quadro K2000M, 9-cell battery, DVD burner, backlit keyboard, Bluetooth, Intel 6300 wireless card

If you purchased at Lenovo.com, were there any discount codes, i.e. percentage off deals at the release time?

Touchscreen always means "glossy".

I hope it will also come with a "matte" (non toch screen) option

There should be no issue with making a matte capacitive touchscreen.

The X1 already has it: X1 carbon touch

Here is a hands on review of the T440, note "non glossy" screen:
