wow! Sorry to hear that. Lenovo has stopped responding to this thread I believe. I posted on it anyway because I was sure I wasn't the only person having this problem at the time. I hope they can help you in some way.

Lenovo released a new BIOS Version 2.29 some days ago.

I did not see any changes regardingthe DVD drive in the readme file, so it seems that there is no progress regarding this issue.

Maybe someone who has installed 2.29 can post some experiences, I will remain an 2.27

Does an official RAM compatibility list exist? How about an official SSD compatibility list?

Amy said that some issues were related to the vendor of RAM being used, but she was not specific. Also reports exist that a different SSD fixed the problem. How are we supposed to fix our problem without the company being specific on which components are compatible.

Furthermore, with regards to the optical drive, is there only one FRU that causes the problem? The w540 series was sold in numerous configurations. Amy really didnt solve any problem. She just said, it could be any of the user replaceable components, which in my mind is total crap!

I am having this problem on BIOS 2.31.

Re: W540 Freeze on boot screen when connected to docking

Amy, I'm dedicating the W540 to a single use.  Stock Market programs.  As such I need multi monitors.  When using the Dock 40A2 the computer freezes on the first screen and seems to be inactive.  As usual, I'll point out that the genius that decided to remove the HD activity light should be recommended to Apple, and sent to California.

Question???  Am I supposed to install some drivers of Dock firmware????

Thanks for the fortcoming help.
