So now to my question:

To possession recently a Lenovo W540, now I would like to extend with 1 m² SSD.

Does one know which the maximum capacity is I can insert?

Has already read from 256 GB as well as from 16 GB.

Unfortunately, the things are to be made not given around wonderful tests.

Would please me about an answer and many thanks beforehand

Thinkpad W540 works with M2 2242 SSD, that means the type is 42mm long. Current highest buyable capacity is 256GB. I am using one for OS without any issues, here http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W540-mSATA-as-boot-disk/m-p/1611164#M46589 I've posted short performance test.

ThinkPad W520, i7-2820 CPU, 32GB RAM, NVidia Quadro 2000M 2GB GPU , mSATA Samsung Evo 840 1TB + 2x Samsung SSD EVO 840 1TB & Lenovo Helix i7 8GB RAM & ThinkPad W540, i7-4800MQ, 32 GB RAM, NVidia Quadro K1100M, OS on M.2 2242 Transcend MTS400 256GB + 2x Samsung SSD EVO 840 1TB

Indeed I also haven't seen any M2 2242 SSDs with a capacity higher than 256GB yet.
