W540 Hard Drive Crashed - How Do I Get Windows Back On It and All Drivers

2021-04-29, 19:24 PM

Hi Guys

I spent about $5k on this W540 years back with the best processor and 32gb of Ram when that was not a common thing. The SSD Crashed and wiped everything out. How do I get everything back on track with a FRESH Windows Install, and all the drivers?

I assume you are looking for Windows 10?

I would on a W540 suggest to just download the current windows image from Microsoft, install Lenovo System update and let it pull in all the drivers.

If you want you can prepare the USB stick with all the drivers download from:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-w-series-laptops/thinkpad-w540/downloads/driver-list

In a separate folder.

Another option is to look at ordering a recovery image from Lenovo, although I am not sure they offer a w10 image for W540.
