W540 Windows 10 driver issues (UMTS modem / Webcam)

2015-10-11, 12:45 PM

Hi Evereyone,

I'm new here - I just registered to ask for your help.

On my work-notebook, a W540 with 16GB memory, 500GB SSD and the Quadro K2100, I got some really anoying problems since I upgraded to Windows 10:

1. The UMTS-Modem does not work - it is recognized, the SIM (no PIN) is inserted and working, but I cant even switch the modem on. I have installed the beta-drivers first, second I tried to use the drivers from Lenovos support page.
(Modem is the Ericsson N5321GW) currently the most actual driver is installed.

2. Webcam: Simply has no function - it is recognized as "Camera Plus (VGA resolution maximum)" - I figured this current condition out by two symptoms:

a) Skype gives no picture

b) Auto-Lock is without function

To resolve this, I downloaded the most actual drivers from Lenovo support-page. Did not help anyway.

3. (not very often) I just hangs at boot. A forced power-off and reboot helps almost always.

Overall condition: I usually open Lenovo system update almost every day - sometimes there is some software - but nothing has really resolved any problem. The most actual windows updates are installed as well.

So anyone with a suggestion how to solve the above?
A whole lot of searching other forums did not help, so I just thought this is my more or less final attempt.

Regards and have nice weekend,

Matthias

FWIW, I have the same issue with a W540,,, also no longer in the device manager.  For several years it worked with Skype, Computer just sits on my desk using 1 or 2 applications monitoring stock market web page.  Totally useless as a real workstation from day one.  There is no solution for this expensive Chromebook style machine.

I mention sits on my desk, because it has not been abused, carried, screen flexed, dropped, etc.
