W541: How to set function keys to the classic F1-F12

2018-09-01, 4:17 AM

Some time recently I have noticed when I work on directly on with my laptop keyboad, I have to press the Function key to operate the F1-F12 keys.  When I am docked or connected to a USB keyboard this does not occur.

Certainly use the F* keys much more than enabling/disabling wifi(F8) or dim my monitor(F5) with the software I utilize.

I had enabled the Fn & Ctrl key swap in the bios to match any standard keyboard.

Just to clarify, this was working for the past 2 years since I have had this laptop. Something recently with windows or Lenovo updates changed this behavior. I only use this machine probably less than 5% of its use undocked.

Did you recently update the power managment driver?  See below.  For some people its been affecting Function keys and/or OSD.

Believe I updated that recently in an attempt to resolve my issue. However the initial response resolved the issue with the setting in the control panel-> Keyboard -> Default Function Keys

Re: W541: How to set function keys to the classic F1-F12

Tried it, DOES NOT WORK on my W540., I set/ENABLE IN THE BIOS [F1-F12 as Primary Function] then after several days/reboots, it reverts back to the toy feature of a WEB SURFING computer. THIS IS NOT A WORKSTATION. The default SHOULD BE F1-F12 to behave as such. My work macros and tools fail when the W540 reverts to toy defaults unbeknown to me after a reboot.  SOLUTION??? to make the F1-F12 function the way they should and not as a Media/Toy system???
