Re: W550s issues with K620M video card

The other cause of this I can think of is the NVIDIA card being defective. =/

Try a bootable Linux live USB?

Re: W550s issues with K620M video card

Hey there, thanks for the reply. I'm not bold enough to mess around with Linux.

Weird thing is that after I refreshed to a restore point, and all the sudden it detected my K620M video card. However, it had an error that stated: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)". Before I tried your 350.05 suggestion, it wouldn't recognize the K620M, just says "3d controller (unknown device)"

I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my video card or not. Am I supposed to see it in the display options of the BIOS? Because I only see the intel card. Other than that the computer works fine it's just that for whatever reason I cannot get any video drivers installed without it crashing. If it was a video card failure would it really cause crashing during driver installation? To me it seems like the drivers are recognizing the card, it's just that for whatever reason it's not able to install without crashing.

Thanks

Since the system runs most of the critical stuff on the integrated card, it might run fine until you start dealing with things that invoke the NVIDIA card, which NVIDIA driver setup certainly does.

Is there anything relevant in the Event Viewer?

Yeah I'm going to hazard a guess and say the NVIDIA card is bust.

You could try a fresh install of Windows and see if the driver applies properly there.

Yeah I think you may be right. I tried fresh install a few times already and applying drivers, even just straight trhough the thinkvantage update tool and other various ways. Just won't give no matter what! I'm flustered! I really don't want to wait another 30 days for a replacement. Appreciate the help you've provided.

Re: W550s issues with K620M video card

I have the same issue after installing the update to the Mar 2, 2015 driver from the Lenovo site.   It installed fine and worked for a while.   Last night Windows did an automatic update which included a reboot and hit hung up.   Like yours it will boot up and get to the Lenovo "enter to do something else" screen and then goes dark grey.    Nothing else will happen.

Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to get it to boot in to any OS to get at the driver and roll it back.   I have a number of fresh CDs with fresh licenses for the original Win 8 around here but bought the machine with the downgrade to Win 7 x64 and want to keep that.    If I can locate a Win 7 fresh ISO where would I find the key from my Win 7 Pro to use it to activate the fresh Win 7 load.   I have printed all my paperwork from Lenovo so it is likely in there somewhere.   The machine is only 2 weeks old.   Kinda wish I hadn't updated the driver.

You might be able to get into safe mode using F8 if you switch the BIOS back to Legacy.

Other than that, it looks like you might need a recovery USB stick to invoke Safe Mode:
