W550s 20E1S00N00 - BIOS version 1.07

I definitely have the "hissing" sound as well (though it doesn´t really bother me).

20E2CTO1WW
BIOS: 1,07

The hiss exited on the older BIOS version that shipped with the machine too.

Good to know. Finally Lenovo is looking into this issue.

I bought W550s in May 2015 and was really disappointed to know about this issue, since I started using this laptop first time.

Please find my system info below:

Product: 20E2CTO1WW

BIOS: N11ET31W (1.07)

My laptop originally came with Windows 7 but I opted for free upgrade to Windows 8.1 and I used the recovery discs to upgrade it.

I have experienced this issue in both the OS.

There's a few threads indicating a workaround of uninstalling the Realtek driver and using the generic one:

Workaround: Uninstall Realtek driver:

I've tried using the genetic driver but it didn't solve the issue.

The problem here is that this "Workstation & Mil spec" grade laptop suffers from what appears to be a design or test flaw. Let alone the face that so many complains have been made before the W550s was released, yet Lenovo still chose to use similar or the same hardware.

The end user should not be responsible to search for a proper driver to fix the issue when the laptop came with OS installed and "System update" software. Apparently Lenovo is not very enthusiastic on the particular issue.

icevolcano,

Does your W550s exhibit these symptoms?  If so, could we work with you on this?

I think we need a sample system that shows these symptoms to better understand the problem.

Please let us know if we can work with you

Mark

Hi Amy,

I am facing the same issue as well. Good if you check my previous post. I have been experiencing this issue since I first got this laptop.

And I will be happy to help with any testing necessary.
