W700 DisplayPort Max Resolution w/FX3700

2009-03-24, 22:16 PM

I didn't find any specs on the max resolution that the Display Port output.

Does anyone know what the output is on the FX3700M?

Am I going to be able to run a Dell 30" monitor at 2560 x 1600?

Thanks in advance,

John

I don't see why not, you would expect displayport to carry that.

the current thinkpad PSREF doc (link) says the W700 is only capable of 2048x1536 over displayport.   since i don't have a displayport-capable monitor in front of me, i can't personally test this to validate the claim.

According to the tabook the vga output resolution is the same as the DP resolution. I find that hard to believe. Dual DVI can power that resolution, so why can't displayport?

Thanks for pointing out the tabook Eric.

It is odd that they don't mention the dual-link DVI-D max resolution (I only see the VGA Port and the DisplayPort listed).

That'll teach me to really nail down the specs before making the purchase. This is generally a very strong machine. I foolishly assumed that since:

  1) This is a higher end graphics oriented laptop;

  2) Lenovo states ""the W700 the ultimate mobile workstation, plus additional photo-imaging tools and technology";

  3) It has the DisplayPort; and

  4) It has a hot graphics card with 1GB of memory

that it would be capable of running 2 - 24" monitors digitally - not!

As a backup I could always get a docking station that would hold a graphics card that would handle the task (apparently not!)

As a backup to that I could drive a high res 30" monitor (more expensive & I personally like 2-24" monitors) - not!

I must have this wrong - is my best external digital graphics option a single 24" monitor?

P.S.. No I'm not interested in straining my eyes on analog driven monitors - I quit doing that about 6 years ago.

personally, i think the spec listed is incorrect but since i don't have a DP display to test, i can't confirm it.   and, i only have a single 30" and can't test its ability to drive two digital displays simultaneously.   sorry. :(

I would also like to think the spec listed is incorrect .

Do you have the 3090 connected to your w700?

If so, what resolution are you running?  and...

Are you running it on the DVI-D?

the 3090 is connected to my thinkstation D10.   however, i have used it with the W700 over DVI-D without issue.   2560x1600 is definitely supported over DVI.
