W700 Series Wireless Drop

2009-02-04, 17:32 PM
I have two Thinkpad W700 mobile workstations (Fully Loaded) and have been installing all of the Systm Updates to date.  The systems continually lose wireless connectivity no matter what wireless access pont (Cisco, SMC, Linksys, D-link..).  During any internet session the W700's will lose internet and require a reboot to re-aquire the wireless signal. In Addtion, during the system startup in Windows XP, Access Connections will show 100% signal and connection to WiFi and still no access to the Internet.  I have to Disconnect Profile and Connect again to actually be on the Internet.  Any/All help would be appreciated.

mmmcdee,

 - What wireless card and driver version?

 - What version of Access Connections?

 - Are you connecting to an open AP?

 - Are you using the standard preloaded OS, or did you install a retail version?

 - Instead of restarting your system, have you tried toggling off/on the wireless hardware switch on the front of the system?

The laptops are connecting to an Open AP's as well as WEP 128BIT secured connections.  I have not modified the factory installed OS (Windows XP).  As for the Wireless ON/OFF - When I turn on/off the wireless, the system still will not connect due to Access Connections (Version 5.12) locking up and not allowing me to select a profile.  I do run the System Update weekly to make sure all of the latest updates are applied.

mmmcdee,

Thanks for the information.  I have had similar issues with my T500 using the Intel 5100 card...the similarity being a common driver.  I have been reading other wireless threads and see a multitude of Intel-based issues.  I'm giving whatever info I can to our wireless engineers in hopes of them resolving these issues.

There is also a new version of Access Connections waiting for web posting that hopefully will resolve your locking up/profile switching issue.

Regards

First have you downloaded and installed all the drivers for your system?

If not you will need to do that Downloads and drivers for your W700/2757 for Windows XP

Then you will have to download and install all the Prerequisites
Drivers scroll down to Prerequisites

Download the Drivers and ReadMe files to hard drive. Then
uninstall Access Connections

Then read the ReadME file before installing the drivers in
order for the installation to be complete

Then install Access Connections, everything should work.

I hope this helps you :smileyhappy:
