LukeD,

We do have ThinkPads at retailers such as Office Depot and I think Staples.  I would love to walk into a Best Buy one day and see a ThinkPad next to our competitors, but alas, I have no power to make this happen.

Maybe in the US but Canadians are without this convenience.

Re: W700 does not have a Top Roll Cage!

I went to Office Depot and Bestbuy and they are not carring them. Actually I'm glad I didn't see one in the store because I got the W500 for a song compared to what I was ready to pay for a T61p.

I put asked Lenovo to match a price and the next day they had that sale on all computers. How awesome!!

Right now is a good time to buy Lenovo.. My applications seam to be running great and THANK GOD I'm back to a WUXGA display on a 15 inch display. Last year I was on travel and my hell  (dell) notebook died so I ran out to Best Buy and got a Gateway but the max resolution I could find in the store was only the 1200 by 800 wide screen. Ebay time!

i still don't understand why you think the W700 has a plastic lid.

T Series = Plastic lids

R Series = Plastic lids

SL Series = Plastic lids

W500 = Plastic lid

This is why I am very happy to have learned that the W700 has a magnesium lid, Erik.

Does that answer your question? :smileyhappy:

I would like to thank Icepick again for having provided the missing details.

Thanks, Erik!

That is why I had freaked out. When I had read that the W700 did not have a top roll cage, I had thought that it was just the cheap plastic of the T Series, hence my concern.

I wish that Lenovo would add this magnesium exterior back to the T Series, but that is another debate.

@ LukeD,

Yes that is another debate which you started in January. The T-Series may have a coating that feels "plasticy", but it does not have a plastic lid. Have you already forgotten the thread you started in January

To quote myself:

The T has always had a titanium based lid. The T61 has today
"Quote:
titanium and magnesium composite covers give added strength.

You can search this document for "titanium" "

Hope this helps

Andy

Since you are so good at searching threads, you should have found the ones dealing with Lenovo's writing team saying one thing and then changing it a few months later.

There is no titanium whatsoever in the exterior of a T61. It is pure, cheap plastic.

NotebookReview.com, CNET, and PC MAG have all acknowledged this fact.

I think that the document that you have linked had been copied from the T60, the last ThinkPad to feature this type of cover. Having false information written has always been a common practice for Lenovo. Here is just a recent example.
