What's the best screen cleaner for Lenovo LCD screens

2017-01-12, 20:46 PM

I'm looking for the best screen cleaning option for my Lenovo P70 screen. It seems the display has an antireflective coating so I don;t want whatever I use to damage that coating on the LCD screen.

If the display was glass I would just use whatever clear but since it is a plastic/LCD screen wit ha coating I wanted to find something that is absolutely safe.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I was going to buy the following until the 4th review shows damage to a laptop screen's coating.

https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F5L034-Screen-Cleaning-Kit/dp/B001NIEK3Q/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1484253648&sr=8-5&keywords=Laptop+screen+wipes

So none of the experts here know of or use a screen cleaner safe for the P70/P50 LCD screens with the anti reflective coating?

If it's just fingerprints, little water + unscented soap works wonders for decades.

It would be very helpful to hear a definitive answer on this point from Lenovo.  Obviously, they use some kind of products in-house and out to know know which are safe and effective to use.

I've used simple microfiber cloths -- the very cheap blue ones with a washcloth-like nap from Microcenter seem to be OK, as long as they are sufficiently aired-out to eliminate the solvent or dye aroma (have no idea what it is).  These work for most purposes to remove dust and grit and some streaks.

For smudges, I've tried small the much smoother microfiber cloths sold for eyeglass cleaning.  Haven't really had the nerve to try solutions -- it would be great to know which ones are appropriate and won't harm the screen.  Better yet would be a proper, Lenovo approved (or offered) cleaning kit.

Hello,

I use a 1:1 mix of isopropyl alcohol and distillled water to get a microfibre lens cleaning cloth damp (not wet, just dump) and then use that to clean the screen.

Are you sure any type of alcohol is safe on the anti reflective coating of the 4K LCD displays?

If the screen was glass I'd use whatever but I'm trying to be really careful to keep the coating of the LCD display from being damaged. Until I figureout something I know is 100% safe I'm only going to use a microber cloth but I know it is only a matter of time until I'd need to find a solution for cleaning the display without damaging it.

What does Lenovo recommend? Do they have an officially recommmended product for cleaning a non touch 4K LCD display with a coating?

Whenever I get a new pair of glasses (also, when I got a camera) they always give me a small (6"x6") cleaning cloth. I have used one on my screen (after washing it without fabric softeners/dryer sheets). Just get a corner damp and wipe at the spot. You will want to dry if afterward, so leave part of the cloth dry, or have a duplicate on hand.

If it is just dust, I get a soft microfiber cloth and wipe the screen with it.

Re: What's the best screen cleaner for Lenovo LCD screens

I use the same "CleanScreen" product I've been using for several years now, on all of my screens: phone, HDTV displays, computer monitors, laptop screens.  Works perfectly, does not do any harm or damage, does not leave any residue.

Just spray a bit on a corner of the included microfiber waffle-weave cloth to dampen it and then use the wet corner to wash off the screen area, and then use a dry section to dry it down.  Eventually the damp corner will dry out by itself.

Great stuff.  I discovered it by accident, as it had been included by Panasonic in the box with a 55" plasma HDTV I'd bought as their freebie screen cleaner.  Well, it worked so well on that screen (for its very occasional dusting/cleaning) that I decided to use it on other HDTV screens, and then on phone screens (which get notoriously ugly from all the finger tapping and swiping), and then on computer screens, and then on laptop screens.

Can't beat it, for my money.

For whatever it's worth, I contacted the CleanScreen customer service dept. to attempt to confirm the safety of this product (as suggested by DSperber's posting).  Here is my inquiry and their response:

My Message: Could you verify that this product is safe for a Lenovo ThinkPad P70 4K screen with its anti-reflective coating? Thank you

Response:

Thank you for contacting CleanScreen. Yes our CleanScreen is safe on all screens with coatings. Our formula is alcohol and ammonia free and does not contain any agents that would strip coatings on sensitive surfaces. CleanScreen can be used on all smart phones, touch screen and even coated optics.

Hello,

I've used the isopropyl alcohol/distilled water mixture in the past.  Not sure how it would affect any coating on the 4K LCD screen.

Since this is primarily a user-to-user support forum, you may need to contact Lenovo support directly an open a ticket if you require an official company response from Lenovo.
