Besides, the annoying part about the screen is more or less only visible on solid, bright backgrounds like white or grey, e.g. web pages, coding, spreadsheets - nearly everything.

I see, so there is actually no improvement at all and the display is completely useless for its main purpose as workstation  :smileymad: Unfortunately there is no Lenovo showroom having P50 4K to see in real. I am not interested anyway, I returned back to desktop PC with high quality NEC monitor that have none of these recurring quality issues. No more laptop for me that would annoy me 99% of time by its crappy display.

Re: When do we finally get a good screen? (P50 4K)

My P50 arrived today and initial impressions of the 4K screen:

Best screen I have ever used on a laptop.

I've owned/own a Dell XPS15 and also Macbook Pro Retina 15 inch.

Both of those previous options had their strengths - they were both brighter than the P50, but in practice all that really means is that you could run them at 50% brightness compared to running at 75% on the P50 to get roughly the same brightness. (Test compared to macbook pro).

In terms of colours the P50 wins hands down over the Mac (absolutely awful yellow mess of a screen which you can only fix by making it an awful blue mess), and looks slightly better to my eyes than the XPS15.

Now, brightness shift and viewing angles...

I see no issue at all - there is a slight brightness shift if you move your head to the side (a lot), but nothing to worry about.  Under normal usage in front of the screen, it just looks superb.

I can't spot any colour shift and the viewing angle is as you would expect from an IPS - very good.

I am very picky when it comes to spending over two grand on a laptop.

I was worried with some of the posts I had seen, but am absolutely delighted.  This is the best laptop I have owned.  It's a powerhouse and I haven't even added the PCIe disk yet (bought it with a SATA3 ssd). I am also extremely pleased that it is a lot thinner than I expected.

I'll take a couple of pics and a video of the screen later.

For reference, the screen also has a manufacture date of week 36/2015.

Here's the promised video showing some different angles viewing the P50 screen.

The brightness is set to 75%

So, picking up on this after a few months, is the situation still the same or has something changed? I noticed that the P70 seem to have been released in a new verison, but not sure if the same goes for the P50? Any thoughts about if the FHD panel is a better choice (these days)? 4K on a 15" is kind of pointless anyway (my personal opinion).

I finally purchased a P50 after waiting for almost a year for most of the problems to be solved.

I took a chance and got lucky in the "screen lottery" with an LG LP156WF6-SPK3.  This screen is beautiful.  It has absolutely no PWM problem, which is good because I'm running it at 25% brightness according to the Win 10 scale.  It's hard for me to understand why so many people keep screaming for brighter screens.  I would wilt and fall off my chair after 5 minutes of 100% brightness. :smileysurprised:

Anyway -- not sure about the prevalence of this screen or if Lenovo is still shipping a lot of the problematic units.  MIne was shipped about a month ago.

So, either there is a serious panel lottery going on here or Lenovo must have found a way to improve the 4K screen (or rather their suppliers). Any recent reviews of the P50 that confirms this perhaps?

My reply was to your question about the FHD screen.  That's the one I have.
