At Autodesk University in Las Vegas (3rd-5th of Dec) Lenovo had one W540 on display, they said it arrived 2 days before the conference. 3k display is incredible, when you look at it from up close.

Mine (ordered 2 x w540 i7-4900MQ) is on it's way right now and should be delivered in the next couple of hours. Incredibly curious about the screen and performance!

My order is now pushed back to Jan 8 (originally Nov 29) which makes this an incredible delay and compared to the competitiors laptops a couple of months late. I guess Lenovos new production lines are of questionable quality and organized in a pretty bad way. It shouldn't be any shortage of components as they are pretty much the same as HPs and Dells offerings. The only main difference is the screen, and it seems like the only laptops delivered right now are the ones with the 3K screen.

I gave up waiting for a W540 and decided to get a Y510p as a stop-gap. Should tie me over for a year or so... and it had no trouble at all creating this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVr-b9kyVLY

In fact, with a SSD, cache SSD re-purposed for project files and two GT755m cards, it was blisteringly fast... still, will be interested to hear more about the W540 when someone gets their paws on one :-)

Hey -- has anyone at Lenovo given a definitive release date for the W540? Does anyone know what the actual hold-up is in releaseing it? Is it reliability problems, lack of parts, or something else?

I wanted to buy one for work this year (end of year budgets, etc...) but I'm going to end up buying a CTO T540p instead.

Thanks

Great!

Can you run the PCMark 7 Benchmark and post the results?

Re: When is Haswell coming to town (W540)?

Got mine last thursday. Haven't had much time to play with it though. First impression is very positive! I have the 3k-screen and is very sharp! Those icons can become really really small :) Overall speed is very good, windows 8.1 runs fine (although the x-rite doesn't work at the moment).

Some things I don't understand, there are no statuslights (hdd/WiFi/BT), which can be a little annoying. On my W520 I had a hardware-switch for the radio's (WiFi/BT), on my W540 it can only be switched on via software/Fn key).

Hope to have some time to play with it in the next couple of days :)
