Re: WiFi indicator light stays partially lit after shutdown [Thinkpad P52]

Besides vPro, there are some sort-of-always-connected features in modern laptops. I've never investigated this so can't comment but I think it's worth to check for anything related in BIOS settings and in the Lenovo Vantage app.

Yes, it has many names but it is often known as Intel AMT or Management Engine (ME), CSME, and a few others. I usually also turn off CompuTrace.

All that stuff, unless desired, should be disabled as it is accessible from the network. And all of it had exploitable vulnerabilities.

The Intel stuff is basically an OS running on its own CPU above the CPU and has direct access to everything in the machine. With it, an admin can remotely boot a machine and install an OS on it. However, it has to be provisioned by the admin first.

Again, disable if not needed.

Well I have to say hello after a while and thanks for all of your input. Hope you're well.

I kind of forgot about opening this thread but let me follow up on it!

The problem seems to be related to the USB charging when off setting. I have checked it before so it could be connected to the current bios version, everything is updated to current spec.

When I turn off the highlighted setting, I have no more issues with the dimly lit WiFi LED.

I will test out if this also reduces the noticeable battery drain I've encountered.

After about a week I'll come back here and give my final verdict on this issue marking your post as a solution.

Thank you once again, regards from MA.

Hi Wusten,

I'm glad you are ok!

Now that you mention it, I think the Bluetooth portion of the Wi-Fi card is connected to USB internally... There could be a connection!

Looking forward to the results!

I confirm the issue is sorted out, I have no more trouble with battery drain.

Looks like the USB charging circuit was at fault all along, it uses not that much power on standby but enough to be noticeable and mildly annoying.

I've turned it off as I rarely will need to use this function, although it is of course very handy to have occasionally.

Whatever circuit was in contact with the WiFi led giving it residual power is included in this solution, the indicator fully goes off now after shutdown.

Thanks  ve2mrx. See you around!
