Wireless N mode on W500

2008-11-04, 6:13 AM

Hi,

Another problem: do not seem to be able to get speeds over 54 MBS when connecting to my home router in Wireless-N mode. I suspect I still connect in Wireless G mode. Indeed, Wireless-G works fine, same with wireless B. My home router is a Linksys 350N and I run Windows Vista 64bit. I have downloaded the latest drivers from Intel, did not help. Tried to work around with the Device Manager settins for the 5300 AGN card -- does not seem to help. Anybody having any ideas?

Btw, I have a T60p running a Linksys 300N PCMCIA card, and that one connects to my home router at speeds of 130MBS with no problems/questions asked. I also have a T21p which behaves in exactly the same manner.

Thanx,

George

Check for a firmware update on the router, maybe?  Wireless N isn't fully finalized yet so it's not surprising if things don't always work.

the trick to run at wireless mode is, cipher type must be AES,

if you use TKIP, most likely it connects only at 54Gbps, WPA or WPA2 shall work

my current setting with D-link wireless N router is WPA2 + AES, and W500 connects to the router at 130mbps

good luck

I am REALLY unhappy about this. Yes, I have the most up-to-date firmware on the Linksys 350N. Yes, I have the  most up-to-date firmware on my laptop. I have tried EVERYTHING: deleting all profiles, creating new profiles, disabling Windows Wireless Service, reenabling, disabling,WPA/PSK with TKIP, WPA/PSK with AES, WPA2 with TKIP, WPA2 with AES. Nothing works!!!

Thanx man, read it before, tried it. Does not work for me !!! My security was always set to WPA2-PSK/AES on both the W500 as well as on the Linksys WRT350N.

I just realized that you stated "Ignorance is no excuse" I am not sure exactly what exactly did I do to deserve this comment, but if you read carefully my post, you'd see that I have other devices connecting (though indeed Linksys, not Intel) with no problem using N speeds to my router. If I were to use something else than AES cypher, how would this be possible?

dana_2, that phrase is just CXS's sig line.  It wasn't directed at you personally.

:smileyvery-happy: extremely sorry. My bad, did not realize that. Anyhow, I have opened two tickets, one with Intel and one with Lenovo, let's see what comes out of this.

No problem!  The forum software doesn't automatically insert any kind of divider, so sometimes content and sig lines kind of run together - it's an easy mistake to make!
