blue screen error

2009-01-06, 18:15 PM

Hi everyone,

I have W series laptop. It is a brand new laptop (using it for last 2 months). The laptop came with vista 64 with XP 32 downgrade option. The system has 4GB installed memeory but after downgrading to XP 32 I see only 3 GB.

I am experiencing blue screen everyday. Sometimes while using LSprepost, sometime MS Word, sometime Matlab...But it is persistent and happening everyday. Can someone throw somelight on the causeof it? The system is updated regularly, has Mcafee installed and scanned frequently. I ran all diagnostic tests from Lenovo system toolbox and Pc-Doctor 5 for windows - found no problem.

The "performance and configuration history" from the diagnostics and tools of Lenovo System toolbox reports operating system crash and application errors (with matlab. LS prepost). I can give more details if required.

I called customer service, but to explain them everything over phone is pain and most of the time they do not understand. Some of them even did not know that XP 32 can not use 4Gb of ram. Not that I know everything, but a tech suppport guy should be aware of that. Any help on the cause and how to rectify would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

some info on the blue screen would be helpful. error codes,  0x000000,0x000000  etc.

also, event viewer can shed some light on the error as well.

Thank you all,

I think the problem was XP downgrade and the conflict with memory. I have converted back to Vista and running it for last two days. I do not see blue scree and hopefully the problem is gone. But I wonder if this problem typical to me or others (who downgraded Vista business 64 to XP 32 and XP sees only 3Gb even though 4Gb is installed) experience too.

However, I must say that I did not expect this from a Lenovo W series laptop. Even though I hate using Vista and Office 2007, I am forced to do so.

San,

The fact that you can only see 3 gigs of ram with windows XP 32 bit is widely documented both in the PC world and on this forum.

As far as the Blue Screen, I cant really help you on that.

Good Luck.
