help with fingerprint installation on W700ds

2009-02-25, 20:50 PM

I got my W700ds preloaded with Vista Bussiness X64. I tried to install windows XP 32-bit. However is just know 2.5G memory.

Now, I am trying to install XP X64 edition. But the fingerprint does not work for me.

Does anybody give some suggestions?

I tried to install the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 5.8.2 without any problem. After rebooting, it tell me "cannot find fingerprint sensor device" when loading user.

Check if you see any unknown devices in the device manager. Also run System Update and if all else fails try to download the driver, not the software manually from the Lenovo website.

Hope that helps.

Firstly, Thanks for your response to my questions!

I've already downloaded the driver for the fingerprint sensor somewhere, and it appears AuthenTech Inc, AES2810 under Personal identification devices in the device manager. (I don't know if this driver fit this device, but there is no other mark on it)

On the Lenovo website, they only provide driver for Windows XP 32bit/Vista 32/64. NOTHING about XP X64 editon.

The ThinkVantage System Update always report some error when it scan 9-10%, although there is nothing wrong to install it on my computer.

Hi kzou. Sorry I completely overread that. The problem is Win XP64. Lenovo don't support it with drivers and apart from that was XP64 never a really good 64 Bit system as many manufactures weren't producing many drivers for it. I remember the situation when I wanted a 64 Bit system and everyone was telling me to let my fingers from it and they were right. Tried XP64 but it never really took off.

Try the Vista 64 Bit version. I had the chance as well to work on it in our test area and it is really quick. I recommend to deinstall all the Lenovo software that you don't use and defragment your hard disk. This will also delete the services at start up and you really should have a super fast system.

P.S.: I was using the standard T61p so your machine should be quicker. Give it a try. Otherwise try to google for a solution. I unfortunatelt have to pass here.

Good luck and have fun with your machine.

Have a nice Sunday :)

Thanks a lot, guys.

Finally, I cannot figure out the problems with my W700. So, I recovered my system back to Vista B 64bit. I begin to love it, at least, it can let me start my work.

Thanks again.
