how do I do a factory reset on w500?

2013-09-09, 6:46 AM

This is my first laptop, and I want to do a factory reset.

My computer has become incredibly slow couple months ago, and I could not find any reason why.

It is w500, and I have made a rescue and recovery disk using the q drive, and now q drive is gone.

I still do have S drive, the servicev003

I have tried to use the disk, but when I clicked on the factory reset, it said the convert.cmd on C drive does not exist.

I thought the recovery disk, made from q drive, is the only thing needed, but I can not do anything now.

Is there anyway for me to do this?

Since I have S drive, I think I heard somoene saying I can boot to a different partition, but how can I do it?

I did click f12 and it showed 3 options, but none of them looked like s drive.

Someone help me???

Do I need to make a operation system recovery disk also?? it says insert a different cd, but where do i make it?

If you have the key, it will work with the retail version, 32-bit or 64-bit.

The Factory Recovery DVD is different from the Rescue and Recovery DVD. The Factory Recovery DVD will install your version of Windows to factory settings. The Rescue and Recovery DVD is something that you make which backs up your old files and programs.

You can buy a Factory Recovery DVD by visiting this page and calling the support phone number listed, or you can download a Windows Vista ISO from the internet (32-bit or 64-bit will both work) and install retail.

Personally I would suggest you install retail Windows Vista or Windows 7; whichever you prefer, and then simply install the Lenovo drivers from their support page.

Factory Reset DVDs are few nowadays and I strongly doubt Lenovo can even still sell you one.

I need to buy window vista or 7??
It says on my computer that it came with windows vista and I already have the key code.
So there is no way for me to factory reset?
With the rescue and recovery cd in, it tells me to put in operating system recovery disk.
Is it different from the start recovery disk i have made from the thinkpad program?

Do you happen to know if the key is different from home basic version and the other versions such as business or ultimate??

No.

Besides the Lenovo drivers, those programs are all worthless.

If you want an antivirus, etc., download one like Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG Free with MBAM.
