Re: is there a way to disable DVD Eject button?

2011-06-24, 3:19 AM

I finally took my drive out couple days ago. It's very simple, on the bottom of the case push the tab, and slide out. i put a 3M 33+ electrical tape to cover the opening and ordered a drive kit to cover the opening for long term use. i wish i could install a quality speaker in place of DVD drive. Better audio would have been much better choice than an optical drive that's getting outdated fast.

Re: is there a way to disable DVD Eject button?

I'd had my W520 for a while and I love it. But there is one design quirk that is driving me nuts.

It is way too easy for me to press the DVD drive eject button. Every time I pick up or move my laptop, I would accidentally press the button and the DVD drive ejects itself.

I feel that the button pops out a tad too much. Positioning it on the edge of the chamfer makes it even easier for accidental activation whenever the user lifts the W520. May I suggest that future laptops consider this design quirk?

I have not been able to find a software solution to this issue. Is there any update which would require two button presses to eject the DVD drive?

@all,

This has been escalated to the team but still pending word from them if they are going to provide a software fix.

I normally close the lid of the W520 to walkaround the office for meetings but the DVD ejects 2 to 3 times when I move around, I understand the disadvantages of this.

Has this problem been fixed yet? This is incredibly annoying, since I use the laptop on - can you believe it? - MY LAP. When I handle it, move it, jiggle it, pick it up, put it down - and sometimes for NO APPARENT REASON - the DVD tray pops open. DUMB DUMB placement of the hypersensitive button. I need a lock that works, and from what I've read, none of the locks out there work, so I WANT A FIX FROM LENOVO!

And can someone tell me how to get the site to go back to English? Please don't tell me the box at the upper right - it doesn't work. When I registered, it turned everything German, including the welcome email, which has no discernable (to me - I don't read GERMAN) way to reply. And no, I didn't click anything saying I wanted things in German.

Thanks - back in English now! Ich sprecken nicht Deutche (I probably didn't spell any of that right - that's all I remember of my 3 days of German class in college before I bailed out).

It has been 6 months now since this issue was brought up and still no fix.

Surely, a simple thing like this can't be that hard to fix?  I have a new found respect for Microsoft Updates now.

How often do you use the optical drive?  Would a HDD caddy/adaptor and extra drive be a solution for you?

We shouldn't have to do this - this should be a SIMPLE software fix.
