Actually your W520 needs a good whack!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I agree it's annoying and it appears to annoy T420 users even more.

Agreed (and I thought I put a smilie in my response)!

I don't know why this problem hasn't been addressed by now - from the existence of the Toddler Keys software, I would think a simple software solution could be written specific to this one device.

I recently just got my W520, and it has happened since day 1. I'm in the second week of owning it and I must have opened the DVD drive a minimum of 3 times per day. Who's shoes do I have to shine to get this addressed

Betreff: is there a way to disable DVD Eject button?

2012-02-29, 16:34 PM

I wrote LockCD application after giving up on finding a properly functioning software that would lock the CD ROM eject button which i hit quite frequently on my Lenovo T520 laptop. The main problem with the software found over the internet was that it wouldn't retain the lock state after Sleep/Resume. I made it freely available at http://sourceforge.net/p/lockcd/wiki/Home/

I haven't heard of a software fix, but I did a little googling and found a temporary hardware fix:

I did the same but used a plastic drink straw laid across the top of the door before closing that wedges the door closed. Leave a little piece handing out (1/4") near the back to pull and remove when the drive is needed. Little less sticky that the tape but same principle. Works great!

I was bothered by this too. So I fixed the DVD drive hardware!

Here is a step-by-step of my fix on Instructables.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Fixing-DVD-Drive-Eject-Button-on-a-Laptop/

In brief, I opened up the DVD drive and used my Dremel to trim just a hair off the button actuator. Now instead of opening whenever I flutter my eyelashes at it, you need to actually push the button. Perfect! It only took about 20 minutes.

Now who at Lenovo should I tell to change the length of that part?
