Hi!
Windows 1903 is not the best at this time. The general IT recommendation is 1809, ymmv.
Tip: The Enterprise Management section of the Lenovo Support Downloads has SCCM driver packages. The SCCM Package for Windows PE 10 64-bit - ThinkPad bundle contains the minimal set of drivers to install and connect Windows. I'd copy this or the full SCCM Package for Windows 10 64-bit locally (or to the installation media) before starting. Chipset drivers are in the Full package, or get them as a separate download.
I highly recommend the following order:
- Update BIOS (is available), Defaults with F9, then reconfigure as needed.
- Update the Intel Management Engine 11.8 Firmware.
- Disconnect network/Wi-Fi
- Install Windows 10 1809
- Install Chipset
- Install Network drivers, as needed. DON'T connect the network yet!
- Configure Windows Update Deferral (Computerworld article), DON'T click "Check for updates"! Let Windows do it in the background as you continue working.
- Reconnect network/Wi-Fi
- Install Lenovo Vantage, Install whatever it detects as recommended.
Now, you should be asked to reboot one or more times, do so. Once Windows has installed it's updates and you have rebooted, check the WU logs to make sure everything was OK. If so, shutdown, and proceed to test RAM. I recommend you find why the memory does not work before installing anything else in the machine.
For the duration of the tests, I would disable Boot/HDD/SSD passwords, just to be safe. Windows passwords should be OK, but switching Windows installations messed my fingerprint logon every time... Don't count on them.
To be honest, I'd like to have my hands on your machine to debug this! The Tech in me wants to know what is the problem!!!
Good success!
Martin
