screen gets pretty hot - w530

2012-07-02, 16:37 PM

The top of the screen gets moderately hot, right where the built in webcam is. Its only at the very top. If I touch the lower half of the screen, there is no heat at all.

I thought it might be the wireless antennas up there, but I turned off the wireless entirely via the switch by the ports on the left side, yet the screen still got hot.

Any ideas whats going on?

Strange... There shouldn't be much of a heat source there. Could it be an external heat source like a lamp heating up the top of the screen?

Just checked; have the same thing. Probably just the backlight.

It's a bit too warm for my comfort though.

It's the backlight. Those high-intensity LEDs do get warm.

My W530 has this heating by the webcam as well.

Interesting point: My T530 with the same screen (1600x900) did NOT get hot there.

The 1600x900 is lower brightness, so it has a less power-hungry backlight, and hence less heat.

The FHD screen on my W520 is just warm. Brightness level is set to 12.
