upgrade display in W700

2008-11-29, 9:51 AM

I was wondering if I can upgrade a WSXGA+ display in a W700 to a WUXGA display, by simply ordering a display panel from lenovo, (or by ordering the panel with the frameand the hinges).

Why or why not?

Thanks

Re: upgrade display in W700

toby,

LCD's in general, regardless of ThinkPad model, are not CRU's (Customer Replaceable Units).  Replacement requires proper training and experience, otherwise they can be easily damaged.

Your only option for upgrade would be through a licensed Lenovo servicer.  Any attempt to replace otherwise would void your warranty...and that is something you don't need with an expensive system.

Keep in mind that the LCD makes up a big chunk of the cost of a system.  So deciding to upgrade could be very costly.  I would weigh the cost to benefit ratio to see if you really need to do this.

Regards
